Characteristics of Persian Handwoven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-piled, handwoven rugs made from vegetable-dyed wool by the Qashqai nomads who roam the Zagros Mountains of Iran. The Persian Valiant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, as well as a soft and pleasant texture rich in oils to effectively regulate body temperature.
Gabbeh rugs, woven piece by piece by Iranian nomads using this wool dyed with natural dyes, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Originating from a climate with significant temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and breathable in summer, preventing heat buildup.
And, above all, their artistry. Gabbeh rugs created from the nomads' imaginations often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, original piece.
They are not only suitable for laying on the floor but can also be displayed as art on walls.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a piece you can cherish forever?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent residue, and let it dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
As these are handwoven, there may be variations in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing inconsistencies. Please understand that these are part of the charm of handwoven products.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Consequently, there may be a unique odor from the dyes used to color the wool.
This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
Pompoms can be removed upon request for shipping.
If you prefer, we can remove the pompoms from the corners and sides of the Gabbeh before delivery.
Removing the pompoms will not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
If you wish to have the pompoms removed before shipping, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
