Characteristics of Persian Handwoven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-pile, handwoven rugs made by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadically inhabit the Zagros Mountains in Iran. They use vegetable-dyed wool and are deeply rooted in their way of life. The Persian Varied wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant-to-the-touch texture contains a high fat content that helps with body temperature regulation.
Gabbeh rugs, made by nomads in Iran who dye this wool with natural dyes and meticulously hand-weave each strand, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh are so durable that they are said to last for 100 years.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, preventing feelings of heat.
And above all, there is its artistry. Gabbeh created imaginatively by nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, and each one is a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
They can, of course, be laid on the floor, but are also artistic enough to be hung on walls.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can cherish for a long time?
