Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh is a long-pile rug deeply rooted in the lives of the Qashqai tribe, who nomadize in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, and is hand-woven using naturally dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture with a high fat content that helps regulate body temperature.
Gabbeh rugs, made by dyeing this wool with natural dyes and meticulously hand-weaving each thread by Iranian nomads, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel.
A tightly woven Gabbeh is said to last 100 years, demonstrating its exceptional durability.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh also has the characteristic of being warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, so it doesn't feel hot.
And above all, there is its artistry. Gabbeh rugs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being a unique, original item.
They are not only suitable for laying on the floor but can also be displayed as art on walls.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung-out towel or similar. Then, carefully wipe with a wet cloth to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to the hand-woven nature, there may be distortions in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dye variations. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Also, Gabbeh is woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool may be present.
The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
Pom-poms can be removed for shipping.
If requested, the pom-poms attached to the corners or middle of the Gabbeh can be removed before shipping.
Removing the pom-poms will not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
If you would like your Gabbeh shipped without the pom-poms, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
