Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh is a long-pile rug deeply rooted in the lives of the Qashqai tribe, who nomadize the Zagros Mountains of Iran. They hand-weave these rugs using vegetable-dyed wool. The Persian Varied wool used in this product has excellent durability, allowing it to survive the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and contains a lot of oil for efficient body temperature regulation, resulting in soft and pleasant-feeling fibers.
This wool is dyed with natural dyes and meticulously hand-woven by Iranian nomads, one thread at a time. The resulting Gabbeh is characteristically fluffy and pleasant to the touch.
A well-woven Gabbeh is said to last 100 years, boasting exceptional durability.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh also has the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing it from feeling hot.
And, above all, there's its artistic quality. Gabbehs created from the nomads' imagination often feature animal and plant designs, with each piece being a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
It's not just for placing on the floor; it can even be displayed as art on a wall.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dye variations. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Also, Gabbeh is woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a unique scent from the dyes used on the wool.
This scent will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
Pom-poms can be removed upon request
If requested, the pom-poms attached to the corners or middle of the Gabbeh can be removed before shipment.
Removing the pom-poms will not adversely affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
If you wish to have the pom-poms removed before shipment, please feel free to contact us by email or phone below.
