Characteristics of Persian Handwoven Gabbeh

Gabbeh is a long-pile rug deeply rooted in the lives of the Qashqai nomads, who herd sheep in the Zagros Mountains of Iran. They hand-weave these rugs using naturally dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product is known for its excellent durability, allowing sheep to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant texture, which contains a lot of oil to effectively regulate body temperature.
Gabbeh rugs, made by nomads in Iran who dye this wool with natural dyes and meticulously hand-weave each strand, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Originating from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and airy in summer, making them feel cool.
And, of course, their artistic quality is paramount. Gabbeh rugs, imaginatively created by nomads, often feature animal and plant designs, with each piece being a unique, one-of-a-kind original.

Daily Care

Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
If stains are a concern: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove the detergent and let it dry in a well-ventilated shaded area.

Please Note

Due to the handmade nature, there may be distortions in shape or pattern, weaving irregularities, or dyeing variations. Please understand that these are part of the charm of handwoven products.
Additionally, Gabbeh is woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a distinctive odor from the dyes used on the wool.
The odor will gradually disappear with use, but please be aware of this in advance.

Pom-poms can be removed upon request

The pom-poms attached to the corners and sides of the Gabbeh can be removed before shipping if you request it.
Removing the pom-poms does not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
