Characteristics of Persian Handwoven Gabbeh
Gabbeh is a type of long-pile, handwoven rug made by the Qashqai nomads of the Zagros Mountains in Iran, using plant-dyed wool. The Persian Valiant wool used in this product, developed to survive the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, possesses excellent durability and a soft, pleasant texture rich in oils to effectively regulate body temperature. Gabbehs woven by Iranian nomads, meticulously hand-knotting each strand of this naturally dyed wool, are characterized by their plush and delightful feel. A well-woven Gabbeh is so durable it's said to last for 100 years. Born from a climate with extreme temperature fluctuations between day and night, Gabbeh also has the characteristic of being warm in winter and breathable in summer, preventing it from feeling hot. And above all, there's its artistic quality. Gabbehs created from the nomads' imagination often feature designs of animals and plants, with each one being a unique, original piece. They can, of course, be laid on the floor, but are also artistic enough to be hung on walls. Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can cherish forever?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile. If stains are a concern: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth firmly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent, and let it dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being handwoven, there may be distortions in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, dye inconsistencies, etc. Please understand that these are part of the charm of a handwoven item. Additionally, Gabbeh is woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool may be present. This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
