Characteristics of the Origin (Sirjan)
Sirjan is a city located in southern Iran, belonging to Kerman Province. Kilims woven in Sirjan are also known as "Suzani" or "Silky Pichi," and the city is registered as a kilim production site by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization).
Sirjan kilims are characterized by their extremely intricate and sturdy weave. Woven by nomadic women based on imagination without a pattern, their delicacy and intricacy are astonishing. They are made with a Soumak weave, so the surface is not very fluffy, and animal and geometric patterns are common.
Furthermore, Sirjan kilims often feature deep colors; red is extracted from cherries, blue from eggplant skin, yellow from saffron, green from walnut leaves, and brown from walnut husks or tobacco. Due to these characteristics, Sirjan kilims are highly regarded worldwide and cherished as beautiful handicrafts.
What is a Kilim?
Persian hand-woven kilims are globally popular traditional hand-woven textiles that become more appealing with age. Depending on the era they were woven, they are called vintage kilims, old kilims, or antique kilims, and are beloved by a wide range of people of all ages. Most kilims are made of wool, but some are also produced using cotton or silk. Natural materials are used. Natural dyes are also used, so you can use them with peace of mind. These hand-woven kilims are durably woven and based on the design styles of tribes and ethnic groups known as tribal rugs. They feature geometric patterns with motifs of nature and animals, and each kilim has a unique design.
Various ethnic groups reside in the vast land of Iran. The designs and color characteristics differ by region of origin, allowing you to enjoy a diverse range of design patterns.
Other Uses for Kilims
Kilims are widely used not only as simple rugs or floor coverings but also as decorative items on walls, sofas, tables, beds, and other interior furnishings. Their unique designs and colors are distinctive features, often used as accent pieces in a room. Kilims are not merely decorative items but are positioned as important elements that enrich the overall atmosphere of a room and highlight its individuality. They add a unique charm and warmth to the room's space. By utilizing kilims, you can create a life with art and a comfortable life, surrounded by things you love.
Kilims and Interiors
The use of kilims is highly flexible and can be incorporated into various interior styles. In modern interiors, the unique patterns and colors of kilims can add an accent to a simple space. For natural and Nordic interiors, combining them with wooden furniture, plants, or other natural materials can enhance the warmth and natural atmosphere of the kilim. They also blend well with a bohemian atmosphere, enhancing the overall feel of a room when placed on the floor or hung on the wall. Kilims have ethnic designs and a tribal feel, making them compatible with interiors that incorporate cultural elements from Iran, Turkey, or Morocco. Placing them as tapestries or cushions can add warmth and depth to the entire room.
Daily Care
Please remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom. If you are concerned about stains, dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a cloth tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with water to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Points to Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be slight distortions in shape, weaving irregularities, or dye variations. Please enjoy these as part of the charm of hand-woven items.
