Characteristics of the Origin (Sirjan)
Sirjan is a city located in southern Iran, part of Kerman Province. Kilims woven in Sirjan are known as "Suzani" or "Siriki Pitch" and their production region is registered with UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization).
Sirjan kilims are characterized by their extremely dense and sturdy weave. Nomadic women weave them based on imagination without a pattern, so their delicacy and intricacy are astonishing. They are soumak weaves, with little pile on the surface, and often feature animal and geometric patterns.
Sirjan kilims also tend to have deep colors; red comes from cherries, blue from eggplant skins, yellow from saffron, green from walnut leaves, and brown from walnut husks or tobacco. Due to these characteristics, Sirjan kilims are highly regarded worldwide and cherished as beautiful handicrafts.
What is a Kilim?
Persian hand-woven kilims are globally popular traditional hand-woven textiles that grow more beautiful with use. Depending on the era they were woven, they are called vintage kilims, old kilims, or antique kilims, and are loved by people of all ages. Most kilims are wool, but some are produced using cotton or silk. They use natural materials. Natural dyes are also used for coloring, so you can use them with peace of mind. These hand-woven kilims are durably woven and are based on tribal and ethnic design styles known as tribal rugs. They feature geometric patterns inspired by nature and animals, and each kilim has a unique design.
Various ethnic groups live in the vast land of Iran. Each region of origin has different design and color characteristics, allowing you to enjoy a diverse range of design patterns.
Other Uses for Kilims
Kilims are widely used not only as simple rugs or floor coverings but also as wall hangings and as decorative items for sofas, tables, beds, and other interior spaces. Their unique designs and colors are distinctive, often used to accent a room. Kilims are not merely decorative items but play an important role in enriching the overall atmosphere of a room and highlighting its individuality. They add a unique charm and warmth to a room's space. By utilizing kilims, you can create a life with art and comfort, enjoying a life surrounded by things you love.
Kilims and Interior Design
Kilims offer great flexibility and can be incorporated into various interior styles. In modern interiors, introducing the unique patterns and colors of a kilim into a simple space adds an accent. For natural or Scandinavian interiors, pairing kilims with wooden furniture, plants, or interiors made of natural materials can enhance their warmth and natural feel. They also pair well with a bohemian atmosphere, enhancing the overall room ambiance when placed on the floor or hung on a wall. Kilims have ethnic designs and tribal aesthetics, making them a good match for interiors that incorporate cultural elements from Iran, Turkey, and Morocco. By placing them as tapestries or cushions, you can add warmth and depth to the entire room.
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom. If you notice any stubborn dirt, dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water and gently wipe the surface with a well-wrung towel or similar cloth. Afterward, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent, then let it dry in a well-ventilated shaded area.
Please Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be slight irregularities in shape, weaving, and dyeing. Please enjoy these as part of the charm of a hand-woven item.
