Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
If you spill drinks or other liquids, immediately absorb the liquid with something highly absorbent (such as kitchen paper or tissues), then wipe with a damp cloth.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, thoroughly wipe with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
