Characteristics of the Origin (Sirjan)
Sirjan is a city located in the southern part of Iran, belonging to Kerman Province. Kilims woven in Sirjan are also known as "Souzani" or "Silky Pichi" and their production area has been registered with UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization).
Sirjan kilims are characterized by their extremely fine and firm weave. Because nomadic women weave them based on their imagination without a pattern, their delicacy and precision are astonishing. They are sumac woven, with a surface that is not very fuzzy, and animal and geometric patterns are often seen.
Furthermore, Sirjan kilims often feature deep colors; red is made from cherries, blue from eggplant skin, yellow from saffron, green from walnut leaves, and brown from walnut husks or tobacco. Due to these characteristics, Sirjan kilims are highly regarded worldwide and cherished as beautiful handicrafts.
What is a Kilim?
Persian hand-woven kilims are globally popular and are traditional handwoven textiles that deepen in character with use. Depending on the era they were woven, they are called vintage kilims, old kilims, or antique kilims, and are loved by people of all ages. Most kilims are made of wool, but some are also produced using cotton or silk. They use natural materials. Since natural dyes are used for coloring, you can use them with peace of mind. These hand-woven kilims are durably woven and are based on the design styles of tribes and ethnic groups, known as tribal rugs. They feature geometric patterns with motifs of nature and animals, and each kilim has a unique design.
Various ethnic groups live in the vast land of Iran. The design and color characteristics differ by region, allowing you to enjoy a diverse range of design patterns.
Other uses for Kilims
Kilims are not only used as carpets or floor coverings but are also widely used as interior items, displayed on walls, or on sofas, tables, and beds. Their unique designs and colors are distinctive, and they are often utilized as accents in a room. Kilims are not merely decorative items but are important elements that enrich the overall atmosphere of a room and highlight its individuality. They add unique charm and warmth to a living space. By utilizing kilims, you can achieve a life surrounded by art and comfort, enjoying a life surrounded by things you love.
Kilims and Interior Design
Kilims can be integrated into various interior styles with great flexibility. In modern interiors, incorporating the unique patterns and colors of a kilim into a simple space adds an accent. For natural or Scandinavian interiors, combining them with wooden furniture, plants, or other natural materials enhances the warmth and natural feel of the kilim. They also pair well with a bohemian atmosphere; placing them on the floor or hanging them on the wall enhances the overall room ambiance. Kilims have an ethnic design and tribal feel, making them a good match for interiors that incorporate cultural elements from Iran, Turkey, or Morocco. By arranging them as tapestries or cushions, you can add warmth and depth to the entire room.
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom. If you are concerned about stains, dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with water to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated shade.
Points to Note
Due to being handwoven, there may be distortions in shape, uneven weaving, or uneven dyeing. Please enjoy these aspects as part of the charm of handweaving.
