Characteristics of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-piled rugs made from plant-dyed wool, hand-woven by the Qashqai tribe who nomadize in Iran's Zagros Mountains, deeply rooted in their way of life. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and contains a lot of oil to regulate body temperature effectively, resulting in a soft and pleasant texture.
Gabbeh rugs, with their wool dyed with natural dyes and meticulously hand-woven by Iranian nomads, one strand at a time, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are said to last 100 years, boasting exceptional durability.
Born from a climate with drastic temperature changes between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, preventing feelings of heat.
And, above all, there's their artistic quality. The Gabbeh rugs created imaginatively by nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, with each one being a unique, original piece.
They can, of course, be laid on the floor, but are also beautiful enough to be hung on a wall as art.
Gabbeh rugs are meant to be used for a long time; why not find your own special Gabbeh?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile.
For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung towel. Then, carefully wipe with water to remove detergent residue, and let it dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be distortions in shape or pattern, weaving irregularities, and dye variations. Please understand that these are part of the charm of a hand-woven item.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a unique odor from the dyes used for the wool.
The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
