Characteristics of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-pile rugs, hand-woven by the Qashqai tribe who nomadize in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and contains a lot of oil, making it soft and pleasant to the touch, skillfully regulating body temperature.
These Gabbeh, made by nomads in Iran who dye the wool with natural dyes and meticulously hand-weave each strand, are characterized by their fluffy and comfortable texture.
Well-woven Gabbeh are said to last for 100 years, boasting exceptional durability.
Gabbeh, created in a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, are warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, a feature that prevents them from feeling hot.
And above all, there is their artistic quality. The Gabbeh created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, original, one-of-a-kind item.
They can, of course, be laid on the floor, but also hung on walls as art.
