Characteristics of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile rugs deeply rooted in daily life, hand-woven by the Qashqai nomads in the Zagros Mountains of Iran using vegetable-dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, allowing sheep to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and is rich in lanolin, making it soft and pleasant to the touch, skillfully regulating body temperature.
Gabbeh rugs, made by dyeing this wool with natural dyes and meticulously hand-woven by Iranian nomads, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing feelings of heat.
And above all, there is their artistry. Nomads create imaginative Gabbeh rugs, often featuring animal and plant designs, with each one being an original, one-of-a-kind item.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on the wall as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh rug that you can cherish for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
If concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool and silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with water to remove detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated shade.
Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing variations. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a unique smell from the dye used on the wool.
Please note that the smell will gradually dissipate with use.
