Features of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are hand-woven by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadically live in the Zagros Mountains of Iran. These long-piled rugs are an integral part of their daily life, made from plant-dyed wool. The "Persian Variant" wool used in this product comes from sheep that live in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, giving it excellent durability and a soft, pleasant texture rich in natural oils, which helps regulate body temperature.
The wool is dyed with natural dyes, and then meticulously hand-woven by Iranian nomads, one strand at a time, resulting in a plush and comfortable Gabbeh.
A tightly woven Gabbeh is said to last for 100 years, boasting superior durability.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature fluctuations between day and night, Gabbeh rugs also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing a feeling of heat.
And most notably, there's its artistry. Gabbeh rugs, imagined and created by nomads, often feature animal and plant designs, with each piece being a unique, original work.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, one that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile.
If concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung towel or similar. Afterwards, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove any detergent, then air dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be slight irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing variations. Please understand that these are part of the charm of a hand-woven item.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a distinct odor from the dyes used on the wool.
This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
