Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh

Gabbeh are long-piled, plant-dyed wool rugs hand-woven by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadically inhabit the Zagros Mountains of Iran. The Persian variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, allowing sheep to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and contains a lot of oil to regulate body temperature, resulting in soft and pleasant-to-the-touch hair.
Gabbeh, made by nomads in Iran meticulously hand-weaving this wool dyed with natural dyes, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh are said to last 100 years, boasting exceptional durability.
Born from a climate with drastic temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and well-ventilated, not feeling hot in summer.

Daily Care

Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
If concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung towel or similar. Then, thoroughly wipe with a damp cloth to remove the detergent and dry in a well-ventilated shade.

Please Note

Due to being hand-woven, there may be distortions in shape or pattern, weaving irregularities, dyeing irregularities, etc. Please be aware that these are part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Also, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a unique smell from the dye used to color the wool.
The smell will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.

Pompoms can be removed before shipping

The pompoms attached to the corners and middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before shipment.
Removing the pompoms does not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
