Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh

Gabbeh are long-piled rugs, hand-woven by the Qashqai tribe who nomadize in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, allowing sheep to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and contains a lot of oil for good body temperature regulation, resulting in soft and pleasant-feeling wool.
Gabbeh, made by nomads in Iran who dye this wool with natural dyes and meticulously hand-weave each strand, are characterized by their soft and pleasant texture.
Well-woven Gabbeh are said to last 100 years, demonstrating their exceptional durability.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and breathable in summer, preventing feelings of heat.
And, above all, there is its artistry. Gabbeh created from the imagination of nomads often feature animal and plant designs, and each one is a unique, original piece.

Daily Care

Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile.
If concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth firmly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a wet cloth to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.

Points to Note

Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing irregularities. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Also, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used to color the wool may be present.
The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.

Pom-poms can be removed for shipping

The pom-poms attached to the corners and middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before delivery.
Removing the pom-poms does not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
