Characteristics of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh

Gabbeh are long-pile, hand-woven rugs made by the Qashqai nomads of the Zagros Mountains in Iran, using vegetable-dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product is soft and pleasant to the touch, containing a high amount of lanolin, which provides excellent durability and body temperature regulation needed to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains.
These Gabbeh rugs, woven by Iranian nomads, one strand at a time, using wool dyed with natural dyes, are characterized by their plush and comfortable texture.
Well-woven Gabbeh are said to last for 100 years, boasting excellent durability.
Born from a climate with extreme daily temperature differences, Gabbeh also have the unique characteristic of being warm in winter and airy and cool in summer.
And, above all, there is its artistry. Gabbeh created from the nomads' imagination often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being an original, one-of-a-kind item.

Daily Care

Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung towel. Then, carefully wipe with water to remove the detergent and dry in a well-ventilated shade.

Notes

Due to being hand-woven, there may be variations in shape, pattern distortion, weaving irregularities, and dyeing inconsistencies. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Also, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used to color the wool may occur.
This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.

Pom-poms can be removed upon request before shipping

The pom-poms on the corners or middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before shipping.
Removing the pom-poms does not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
