Characteristics of Persian Handwoven Gabbeh

Gabbeh are long-pile, handwoven rugs made by the Qashqai nomads of the Zagros Mountains in Iran, using vegetable-dyed wool. The Persian variant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant texture is rich in oils, allowing for effective temperature regulation.
These Gabbeh, hand-dyed with natural dyes and meticulously hand-woven strand by strand by Iranian nomads, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh are said to last for 100 years, boasting exceptional durability.
Born from a climate with significant diurnal temperature variations, Gabbeh also have the unique characteristic of being warm in winter and airy and cool in summer.

Daily Care

Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with water to remove detergent and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.

Please Note

Due to being handwoven, there may be variations in shape, pattern distortion, weaving irregularities, and dyeing irregularities. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Additionally, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a distinctive odor from the wool dye may be present.
This odor will gradually fade with use, but please be aware of this in advance.

Pom-poms can be removed before shipping

If requested, we can ship Gabbeh without the pom-poms attached to the corners or middle.
Removing the pom-poms does not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
