Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh

Gabbeh are long-piled rugs woven by the Qashqai nomads of the Zagros Mountains in Iran, using vegetable-dyed wool and deeply rooted in their daily lives. The Persian variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, necessary for survival in the harsh Zagros Mountains, and is soft and pleasant to the touch, containing a lot of oil for effective body temperature regulation.
Gabbeh, hand-woven by Iranian nomads strand by strand after dyeing the wool with natural dyes, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh are said to last 100 years, boasting superior durability.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh are warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing a feeling of heat.
And above all, there's their artistic quality. Gabbeh created from the nomads' imaginations often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
They can, of course, be laid on the floor, but are also artistic enough to be hung on walls.

Daily Care

Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile.
For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated shaded area.

Please Note

Due to being hand-woven, there may be variations in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing unevenness. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Also, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dye used on the wool may occur.
This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.

Pom-poms can be removed before shipping.

If requested, we can remove the pom-poms from the corners and middle of the Gabbeh before shipping.
Removing the pom-poms will not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
