Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are hand-woven rugs with long piles made from vegetable-dyed wool by the Qashqai nomads who inhabit the Zagros Mountains in Iran. The "Persian Variant" wool used in this product possesses excellent durability, necessary for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture with a high oil content for effective body temperature regulation.
The Gabbeh are made by dyeing this wool with natural dyes and meticulously hand-weaving each strand by Iranian nomads, resulting in a distinctively fluffy and pleasant feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh are renowned for their exceptional durability, said to last for 100 years.
Originating from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and breathable in summer, preventing feelings of heat.
And above all, there is its artistic quality. Gabbeh created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, with no two being exactly alike, making each one an original, one-of-a-kind piece.
They can be laid on the floor, of course, but also hung on walls as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with water to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated shaded area.
Please Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing variations. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-woven items.
Additionally, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used to color the wool may be present.
The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
