Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh

Gabbeh are long-pile, natural-dye wool rugs hand-woven by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadize in Iran's Zagros Mountains, and are deeply rooted in their daily lives. The Persian variant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant texture, rich in natural oils, helps regulate body temperature.
Gabbeh, woven by Iranian nomads thread by thread by hand after dyeing the wool with natural dyes, are characterized by their plush and pleasant feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh are said to last for 100 years, boasting exceptional durability.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, preventing feelings of heat.
And above all, there is its artistry. Gabbeh created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, original piece with no two alike.

Daily Care

Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove the detergent and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.

Important Notes

Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dye variations. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Additionally, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool, which may result in a distinctive odor from the dyes used on the wool.
This scent will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.

Pom-poms can also be removed before shipping.

The pom-poms located at the corners and in the middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before shipment.
Removing the pom-poms does not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
