Features of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh is a long-pile rug hand-woven by the Qashqai nomads in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using vegetable-dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, necessary for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and contains a high amount of lanolin, giving it a soft and pleasant texture that helps regulate body temperature.
Gabbehs are made by nomads in Iran who dye this wool with natural dyes and meticulously hand-weave each strand, resulting in a plush and pleasant feel.
Well-woven Gabbehs are so durable that they are said to last 100 years.
Originating from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbehs also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy and cool in summer.
And above all, there is its artistry. Gabbehs created from the nomads' imaginations often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile.
For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel firmly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with water to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dye variations. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Also, Gabbehs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique scent from the wool dye may occur.
The scent will gradually disappear with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
Pompoms can be removed before shipping.
The pompoms on the corners or middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before shipping.
Removing the pompoms will not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
If you would like the pompoms to be removed before shipping, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
