Characteristics of Persian handwoven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, handwoven rugs made from vegetable-dyed wool by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadically inhabit the Zagros Mountains in Iran. The Persian Variant wool used in this product is known for its excellent durability, necessary for survival in the harsh Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant texture due to its high oil content, which helps with temperature regulation.
These Gabbeh rugs, handwoven piece by piece by Iranian nomads using this natural-dyed wool, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Originating from a climate with extreme daily temperature fluctuations, Gabbeh rugs are also known for being warm in winter and breathable in summer, preventing heat sensation.
And above all, there's their artistic quality. Gabbeh rugs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being an original and unique item.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a rug you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel thoroughly, and gently wipe the surface. Afterward, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove any detergent residue, then dry in a well-ventilated shaded area.
Notes
Due to being handwoven, there may be irregularities in shape or pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing variations. Please consider these as part of the charm of a handwoven product.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Consequently, there may be a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool.
This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
