Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-woven rugs made by the Qashqai nomads who wander the Zagros Mountains in Iran, using plant-dyed wool. The Persian variant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability, necessary for surviving the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture with a high oil content for effective body temperature regulation.
This wool is dyed with natural dyes and meticulously hand-woven, thread by thread, by Iranian nomads, resulting in a Gabbeh that is characterized by its fluffy and pleasant texture.
A tightly woven Gabbeh is said to last 100 years, boasting exceptional durability.
Born from a climate with drastic temperature changes between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are also characterized by being warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, preventing a feeling of heat.
And above all, there is its artistic quality. Gabbeh rugs, imagined and created by nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, original piece.
They can be laid on the floor, of course, but are also artistic enough to be displayed on walls.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a rug you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile.
For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung towel or similar cloth. Afterward, carefully wipe with water to remove the detergent, then air dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Please Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be distortions in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing irregularities. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-woven items.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven with sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a unique odor from the dyes used for the wool.
The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
