Characteristics of the Region (Sirjan)
Sirjan is a city located in southern Iran, belonging to Kerman Province. The kilims woven in Sirjan are called "Suzani" or "Silki Pichi" and their production area is registered with UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization).
Sirjan kilims are characterized by their very dense and firm weave. Because nomadic women weave them based on their imagination without a design, their delicacy and intricacy are astounding. They are Soumak woven, with a surface that is not very fuzzy, and often feature animal and geometric patterns.
Furthermore, Sirjan kilims often have deep color tones, with red extracted from cherries, blue from eggplant skin, yellow from saffron, green from walnut leaves, and brown from walnut husks and tobacco. Due to these characteristics, Sirjan kilims are highly regarded worldwide and cherished as beautiful handicrafts.
What is a Kilim?
Persian hand-woven kilims are globally popular traditional hand-woven textiles that become more appealing with age. They are called vintage kilims, old kilims, or antique kilims depending on the era they were woven, and are loved by people of all ages. Most kilims are wool, but some kilims made with cotton or silk are also produced. Natural materials are used. Natural dyes are also used for dyeing, so you can use them with peace of mind. These hand-woven kilims are durably woven and are based on the tribal and ethnic design styles known as tribal rugs. They are characterized by geometric patterns featuring nature and animals, and each kilim has its own unique design.
Various ethnic groups live in the vast land of Iran. The design and color characteristics differ from one region to another, allowing you to enjoy a diverse range of design patterns.
Other Uses for Kilims
Kilims are widely used not only as simple carpets or floor coverings but also as decorative items on walls, or as part of other interior elements such as sofas, tables, and beds. Their unique designs and colors are characteristic, and they are often utilized as accents in a room. Kilims are not merely decorative items but are positioned as important elements that enrich the overall atmosphere of a room and highlight its individuality. They add unique charm and warmth to a room's space. By utilizing kilims, you can achieve a life with art and comfort, and enjoy a life surrounded by things you love.
Kilims and Interior Design
Kilims offer great flexibility in how they can be incorporated into various interior styles. In modern interiors, introducing the unique patterns and colors of kilims into a simple space adds an accent to the area. For natural or Scandinavian interiors, placing wooden furniture and plants, or combining them with interiors made from natural materials, can enhance the warmth and natural ambiance of kilims. They also blend well with a bohemian atmosphere, enhancing the overall feel of the room when placed on the floor or hung on a wall. Kilims have an ethnic design and tribal feel, making them a good match for interiors that incorporate cultural elements from Iran, Turkey, Morocco, and other regions. By using them as tapestries or cushions, you can add warmth and depth to the entire room.
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom. If you are concerned about stains, dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung towel or similar. Then, wipe thoroughly with water to remove the detergent and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be slight distortions in shape, weaving irregularities, or dyeing irregularities. Please enjoy these as part of the charm of a hand-woven item.
