Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile rugs deeply rooted in the lives of the Qashqai nomadic tribe in Iran's Zagros Mountains, who hand-weave them using plant-dyed wool. The Persian variant wool used in this product is known for its excellent durability to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant texture rich in oil, which helps with temperature regulation.
Gabbeh rugs, woven meticulously by hand, thread by thread, by Iranian nomads after dyeing the wool with natural dyes, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Originating from a climate with significant temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are also known for being warm in winter and breathable in summer, preventing feelings of heat.
And, of course, their artistic quality is paramount. Gabbeh rugs created by the nomads' imagination often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, original piece with no two alike.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art.
Gabbeh rugs can be enjoyed for a long time, so why not find your own special Gabbeh?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust by vacuuming or sweeping along the nap.
For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung out towel or similar. Afterward, wipe thoroughly with water to remove detergent, then dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape, pattern, weave, and dye. Please consider these as part of the charm of a hand-woven item.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique scent from the wool dyes may be present.
This scent will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
