Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-woven carpets made by the Qashqai nomads living in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool as part of their daily life. The Persian variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, developed to survive the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and is rich in natural oils, resulting in a soft and pleasant texture that helps regulate body temperature.
These Gabbeh rugs, hand-woven strand by strand by Iranian nomads using naturally dyed wool, are characterized by their fluffy and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing them from feeling hot.
And, above all, their artistry. Gabbeh rugs created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique original. They can be laid on the floor or even hung on the wall as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh rug that you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust by vacuuming or sweeping along the nap of the rug.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung-out towel or similar. Afterwards, wipe thoroughly with water to remove any detergent, then dry in a well-ventilated shaded area.
Points to Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing variations. Please consider these as part of the charm of a hand-woven item.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Consequently, a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool may be present.
This odor will gradually fade with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
