Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-pile rugs, rooted in daily life, hand-woven by the Qashqai tribe who nomadize in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using wool dyed with natural plant dyes. The Persian variant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture rich in oil content to effectively regulate body temperature.
Gabbeh rugs, woven meticulously by Iranian nomads using natural dyes on this wool, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh are said to last 100 years, boasting exceptional durability.
Born from a climate with extreme day-night temperature differences, Gabbeh also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing a feeling of heat.
And above all, there is its artistry. Gabbeh, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature animal and plant designs, making each one a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
They can, of course, be placed on the floor, but are also beautiful enough to be displayed as art on a wall.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, one that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust by vacuuming or sweeping along the nap of the rug.
If dirt is noticeable: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel firmly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent, and let it dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Points to Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing irregularities. Please consider these as part of the charm of a hand-woven item.
Additionally, Gabbeh are woven with sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique scent from the dyes used to color the wool may be present.
The scent will gradually dissipate with use, but we ask for your understanding in advance.
