Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-woven rugs made by the Qashqai nomads who roam the Zagros Mountains in Iran, using vegetable-dyed wool. The Persian variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, allowing sheep to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and is rich in lanolin to regulate body temperature, resulting in a soft and pleasant texture.
Gabbeh rugs, made by nomads in Iran meticulously hand-weaving this wool dyed with natural dyes, are characterized by their fluffy and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Originating from a climate with significant temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing feelings of heat.
And, above all, there is their artistic quality. Gabbeh rugs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being a unique original.
They can be laid on the floor or even displayed as art on a wall.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh rug that you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung cloth or towel. Afterward, wipe thoroughly with water to remove the detergent, then dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be variations in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing inconsistencies. Please consider these as part of the charm of a hand-woven item.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a distinctive odor from the dye used on the wool may be present.
This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
