Characteristics of Persian Hand-knotted Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-pile, hand-knotted rugs made by the Qashqai nomads who roam the Zagros Mountains in Iran, using plant-dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and contains a lot of oil for effective temperature regulation, resulting in a soft and pleasant texture.
Gabbeh rugs, made by Iranian nomads who carefully hand-knot each strand of this natural-dyed wool, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh are said to last 100 years, demonstrating their exceptional durability.
Born from a climate with extreme day-night temperature differences, Gabbeh rugs also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy and cool in summer.
And, above all, their artistry. Gabbeh created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, with each one being a unique, original piece.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can cherish for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile.
If dirt is a concern: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with water to remove the detergent and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-knotted, there may be variations in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dye unevenness. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-knotted items.
Also, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique scent from the wool dye may be present.
This scent will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
