The turquoise used in this accessory is called Shajar, and it has a natural matrix pattern where turquoise and rock are mixed. Shajar means "tree with branches" in Persian, and the branch-like texture of the stone enhances the blue of the turquoise.

This is an original design by our shop, a one-of-a-kind piece by the famous Iranian engraver Mr. Javaheri. Leather Javaheri was an engraver who worked as one of the royal family's jewelers during the Pahlavi dynasty. While lecturing at the Tehran University of Art, he created jewelry for our store from 1990 to 2007. The delicate designs, tailored to the individuality of each turquoise, further enhance the charm of the turquoise. The back of each turquoise is individually engraved with gold to match the stone's shape.

Characteristics of Natural Persian Firuze (Turquoise) Jewelry

This stone, mined in ancient Persia (Iran), was brought to Europe via Turkey, which is where its name, meaning "Turkish," originated. Persian turquoise is of the highest quality, with a vivid, deep sky blue color often called "the color of the spring sky," and high hardness. In fact, it was the first stone used by humankind as a protective amulet.

In Persia, it was cherished by the royal family for many years, and this Persian blue was also highly valued during the Victorian era.
Besides Iran, the best quality source, turquoise is also produced in Australia, America, China, Egypt, and other places, with varying qualities. While a lot of Arizona turquoise from America is brought to Japan, this Persian "firuze (turquoise)" is rarely introduced due to its decreasing production and rarity in recent years.
