Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
If you spill drinks or other liquids, immediately absorb the moisture with an absorbent material (such as paper towels or tissues), then wipe with a damp cloth.
If concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel firmly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
