Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the nap of the rug.
If you spill drinks or other liquids, immediately absorb the moisture with an absorbent material (such as kitchen paper or tissue), then wipe with a damp cloth.
If you are concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel firmly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
