Characteristics of the production area (Sirjan)
Sirjan is a city located in the southern part of Iran, belonging to Kerman province. Kilims woven in Sirjan are called "Suzani" or "Silky Pich," and the city has been registered as a kilim production area by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization).
Sirjan kilims are characterized by their very intricate and sturdy weave. Nomadic women weave them based on their imagination without a design, so their delicacy and intricacy are astonishing. They are Soumak woven, with a surface that does not fluff much, and animal and geometric patterns are often seen.
Sirjan kilims also feature many deep colors; red is extracted from cherries, blue from eggplant skins, yellow from saffron, green from walnut leaves, and brown from walnut husks or tobacco. Due to these characteristics, Sirjan kilims are highly regarded worldwide and cherished as beautiful handicrafts.
What is a Kilim?
Persian hand-woven kilims are globally popular traditional hand-woven textiles that become more characterful with age. Depending on the era they were woven, they are called vintage kilims, old kilims, or antique kilims, and are loved by people of all ages. Most kilims are made of wool, but some kilims are also produced using cotton or silk. They use natural materials. Since natural dyes are also used for dyeing, you can use them with peace of mind. These hand-woven kilims are durably woven and are based on the design styles of tribes and ethnic groups known as tribal rugs. They feature geometric patterns with motifs of nature and animals, and each kilim has a unique design.
Various ethnic groups live in the vast land of Iran. Each production area has different design and color characteristics, allowing you to enjoy a diverse range of design patterns.
Other Uses for Kilims
Kilims are widely used not only as simple carpets or floor coverings but also as decorative elements for walls, sofas, tables, beds, and other interior items. Their unique designs and colors are characteristic, and they are often utilized as accents in a room. Kilims are not just decorative items; they are positioned as important elements that enrich the overall atmosphere of a room and highlight its individuality. They add a unique charm and warmth to a room's space. By utilizing kilims, you can create an artful and comfortable living space and enjoy a life surrounded by things you love.
Kilims and Interior Design
Kilims are extremely versatile and can be incorporated into various interior styles. In modern interiors, the unique patterns and colors of kilims can add an accent to a simple space. For natural or Scandinavian interiors, combining them with wooden furniture, plants, or natural materials can enhance the warmth and natural atmosphere of the kilim. They also pair well with a bohemian vibe; placing them on the floor or hanging them on a wall can elevate the overall room ambiance. Kilims feature ethnic designs and a tribal feel, making them a good match for interiors that incorporate cultural elements from Iran, Turkey, Morocco, and other regions. Placing them as tapestries or cushions can add warmth and depth to the entire room.
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom. If you are concerned about stains, dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water and gently wipe the surface with a well-wrung towel. Afterward, carefully wipe with water to remove the detergent, then dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Points to Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be slight distortions in shape, weaving irregularities, and dyeing unevenness. Please enjoy these as part of the charm of hand-weaving.
