Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-woven rugs made by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadize the Zagros Mountains in Iran. They use vegetable-dyed wool as part of their daily lives. The "Persia variant" wool used in this product is known for its excellent durability, necessary for survival in the harsh Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant texture with high oil content, which helps with body temperature regulation.
The Gabbeh rugs, hand-dyed with natural dyes and meticulously woven one by one by Iranian nomads, are characterized by their fluffy and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Originating from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and breathable in summer, preventing a feeling of heat.
And, above all, their artistry. Gabbeh rugs created from the imagination of nomads often feature animal and plant designs, making each one a unique, original piece with no two alike.
They can, of course, be laid on the floor, but are also beautiful enough to be displayed as art on walls.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a rug you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile direction.
For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung towel or similar cloth. Afterward, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove any detergent, then dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Notes
Due to its hand-woven nature, there may be slight distortions in shape and pattern, and irregularities in weaving and dyeing. Please note that these are part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool may occur.
The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
Pom-poms can also be removed before shipping.
The pom-poms attached to the corners or middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before delivery.
Removing the pom-poms does not adversely affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
If you would like the pom-poms removed before shipping, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
