Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh Rugs

Gabbeh rugs are long-pile rugs made from plant-dyed wool, hand-woven by the Qashqai nomads who live in the Zagros Mountains of Iran. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, necessary for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture with a high fat content that helps regulate body temperature. Gabbeh rugs, hand-woven by Iranian nomads, meticulously dyed with natural dyes and woven strand by strand, are characterized by their fluffy and comfortable feel. Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years. Gabbeh rugs, born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy and cool in summer. And, above all, there is their artistry. Gabbeh rugs created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, with no two being alike, making each one an original, unique piece. Daily Care

Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile.

For persistent dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove the detergent and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.

Important Notes

Due to being hand-woven, there may be distortions in shape or pattern, weaving irregularities, dyeing inconsistencies, etc. Please be aware that these are part of the charm of hand-woven products. Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique scent from the wool dyes may be present. This scent will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.

Pom-poms can be removed before shipping

The pom-poms located at the corners and in between on Gabbeh rugs can be removed before delivery upon request.

Removing the pom-poms will not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh rug.
