Characteristics of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are hand-woven by the Qashqai nomads of the Zagros Mountains in Iran. They are long-pile rugs made from vegetable-dyed wool, deeply rooted in their way of life. The Persian variant wool used in this product is known for its excellent durability, developed to survive the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its high oil content, which helps regulate body temperature, resulting in a soft and pleasant texture.
Gabbeh rugs, woven meticulously by Iranian nomads using this naturally dyed wool, one strand at a time, are characterized by their fluffy and delightful feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are renowned for their exceptional durability, said to last for 100 years.
Originating from a climate with significant temperature fluctuations between day and night, Gabbeh rugs also have the unique characteristic of being warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing feelings of heat.
And above all, there's their artistic appeal. Gabbeh rugs created from the nomads' imagination often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on walls as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh rug that you can cherish for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, thoroughly wipe with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be slight distortions in shape or pattern, weaving irregularities, or dye variations. Please understand that these are part of the charm of a hand-woven item.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. As such, a distinctive odor from the wool dye may be present.
This odor will gradually fade with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
Pom-poms can be removed upon request
The pom-poms attached to the corners or along the edges of the Gabbeh can be removed before delivery upon request.
Removing the pom-poms will not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
