Characteristics of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh

Gabbeh are long-pile rugs hand-woven by the Qashqai nomadic tribe in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using vegetable-dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability, necessary for surviving the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture with a high oil content for effective body temperature regulation.

Gabbeh, woven by Iranian nomads by hand, strand by strand, from this wool dyed with natural dyes, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant texture.

Well-woven Gabbeh are said to last for 100 years, boasting superior durability.

Created in a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy and cool in summer.

And above all, there's its artistic quality. Gabbeh, created by nomads from imagination, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being a unique, one-of-a-kind original.

They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art.

Daily Care

Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile direction.

For気になる汚れの場合：中性洗剤（毛・絹用）を水で薄め、かたく絞ったタオル等で表面をやさしく拭いてください。その後丁寧に水拭きして、洗剤を拭きとってから風通しの良い日陰で乾かしてください。

Points to Note

Due to being hand-woven, there may be distortions in shape or pattern, weaving irregularities, dyeing irregularities, etc. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-weaving.

Also, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a unique smell from the dye used to color the wool.

The smell will gradually disappear with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.

Pompoms can be removed for shipping

If requested, the pompoms on the corners and sides of the Gabbeh can be removed before shipment.

Removing the pompoms does not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
