Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-woven rugs deeply rooted in the daily lives of the Qashqai nomadic tribe, who inhabit the Zagros Mountains in Iran. They are made from naturally dyed wool. The "Persian Valiant" wool used in this product is known for its excellent durability, allowing sheep to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant texture due to its high lanolin content, which helps regulate body temperature.
Gabbeh rugs are hand-woven by Iranian nomads, meticulously dyeing the wool with natural dyes and weaving each strand by hand. This results in a fluffy, comfortable texture that is a hallmark of these rugs.
A well-woven Gabbeh is said to last for 100 years, boasting exceptional durability.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing them from feeling hot.
And, of course, there's their artistic quality. The designs, created from the nomads' imaginations, often feature animals and plants, making each Gabbeh a unique, one-of-a-kind piece with no two alike.
They can be used on the floor, or even hung on a wall as a piece of art.
How about finding your own special Gabbeh, a rug that you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile.
For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent, and let it dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be slight irregularities in shape, pattern, weaving, and dyeing. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-woven products.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the wool dye may be present.
This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but we ask for your understanding in advance.
