Characteristics of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile rugs deeply rooted in the lives of the Qashqai tribe, who nomadize in the Zagros Mountains of Iran. They are hand-woven using naturally dyed sheep wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture with a high fat content that helps regulate body temperature.
Gabbeh rugs, handcrafted by Iranian nomads who dye this wool with natural dyes and meticulously weave each strand by hand, are characterized by their soft and plush feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Originating from a climate with significant temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy in summer, making them feel cool.
And above all, their artistic quality. Gabbeh rugs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being a unique original.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art.
Gabbeh rugs can be used for a long time; why not find your own special Gabbeh?
Daily Care
Remove dust and debris by vacuuming or sweeping along the nap.
If stains are a concern: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth firmly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, thoroughly wipe with a damp cloth to remove any detergent and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dye variations. Please consider these as part of the charm of a hand-woven item.
Furthermore, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool may occur.
This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
Pom-poms can be removed upon request
The pom-poms located at the corners or in the middle of the Gabbeh can be removed and shipped to you upon request.
Removing the pom-poms does not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
If you would like the pom-poms removed before shipment, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
