Characteristics of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile rugs deeply rooted in daily life, hand-woven by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadically herd in Iran's Zagros Mountains, using vegetable-dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, as well as a soft, pleasant texture with a high fat content that effectively regulates body temperature.
Gabbeh rugs, woven meticulously by hand, thread by thread, by Iranian nomads after dyeing this wool with natural dyes, are characterized by their plush and pleasant feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are so durable that they are said to last for 100 years.
Originating from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, having the characteristic of not feeling hot.
And, above all, their artistry. Gabbeh rugs created imaginatively by nomads often feature animal and plant designs, making each one a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
They can be laid on the floor, of course, but are also beautiful enough to be displayed as art on a wall.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh rug, one that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile.
If concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung towel or similar. Afterwards, thoroughly wipe with a damp cloth to remove any detergent, then dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing variations. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique scent from the wool dye may be present.
This scent will gradually dissipate with use, but we ask for your understanding in advance.
