Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile rugs deeply rooted in the lives of the Qashqai nomads who hand-weave them in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture rich in oils to effectively regulate body temperature.
Gabbeh rugs, woven by Iranian nomads by hand, knot by knot, after dyeing the wool with natural dyes, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant feel.
A well-woven Gabbeh is said to last 100 years, boasting exceptional durability.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, offering a cool sensation.
And above all, there is its artistry. Gabbeh rugs, imagined and created by nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a rug you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent residue, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be variations in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dye unevenness. Please consider these as part of the charm of a hand-woven item.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool may be present.
This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
