Characteristics of Hand-Woven Persian Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are hand-woven by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadize in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool. These long-piled rugs are deeply rooted in their daily lives. The Persian variant wool used in this product is known for its excellent durability, necessary for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant texture due to its high oil content, which helps regulate body temperature.
Gabbeh rugs, made by nomads in Iran who dye this wool with natural dyes and meticulously hand-weave each strand, are characterized by their fluffy and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last up to 100 years.
Originating from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing feelings of heat.
And, above all, their artistry. Gabbeh rugs, created imaginatively by nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, original piece.
They can be laid on the floor or even displayed on a wall as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a rug you can cherish for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water and gently wipe the surface with a well-wrung towel. Afterward, wipe thoroughly with water to remove the detergent, then dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to the hand-woven nature, there may be variations in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dye inconsistencies. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-woven products.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a distinctive odor from the wool dye may be present.
The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
Pom-poms can be removed upon request

The pom-poms attached to the corners and middle of the Gabbeh can be removed before shipping if you request it.
Removing the pom-poms will not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
If you would like the pom-poms removed before shipping, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
