Characteristics of Persian Hand-Knotted Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-knotted rugs made by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadically herd sheep in Iran's Zagros Mountains, using vegetable-dyed wool. The "Persian Variant" wool used in this product possesses excellent durability, necessary for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture rich in oils to effectively regulate body temperature.
Gabbeh rugs, made by carefully hand-knotting this naturally dyed wool one by one by Iranian nomads, are characterized by their fluffy and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Born from a climate with extreme day-night temperature differences, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and breathable in summer, offering a cool sensation.
And above all, there's their artistic quality. The Gabbeh rugs created by the nomads' imagination often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being a unique, original item. They can be laid on the floor or even hung on the wall as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a rug you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a cloth tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove the detergent and dry in a well-ventilated shade.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-knotted, there may be variations in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dye inconsistencies. Please consider these as part of the charm of a hand-knotted product.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool may be present.
The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
