Characteristics of Persian hand-woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-pile, hand-woven rugs made by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadize in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture with a high fat content to regulate body temperature effectively.
Gabbeh rugs, made by hand-dyeing this wool with natural dyes and meticulously weaving each strand by Iranian nomads, are characterized by their fluffy and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh are so durable that they are said to last for 100 years.
Gabbeh, born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, are also characterized by being warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, so they don't feel hot.
And above all, there's their artistry. Gabbeh created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
They can be laid on the floor, of course, but also hung on walls as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile.
For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with water to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Notes
As these are hand-woven, there may be distortions in shape or pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing irregularities. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Also, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool may occur.
The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
