Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-woven carpets made from vegetable-dyed wool by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadically inhabit the Zagros Mountains in Iran. The "Persian Variant" wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its high oil content results in a soft, pleasant texture that helps regulate body temperature.
Gabbeh rugs, made by Iranian nomads who meticulously hand-weave each strand of this naturally dyed wool, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are renowned for their outstanding durability, said to last for 100 years.
Originating from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing a feeling of heat.
And, above all, there is their artistic quality. Gabbeh rugs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each one being a unique, original piece.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a rug you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile.
If concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with a wet cloth to remove any detergent, and let it dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Notes
As these are hand-woven, there may be slight distortions in shape or pattern, uneven weaving, or uneven dyeing. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-woven products.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool may be present.
This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
