Characteristics of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-pile, hand-woven carpets made by the Qashqai nomads who herd sheep in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using wool dyed with natural plant dyes. The Persian variant wool used in this product has excellent durability to survive the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft and pleasant texture, rich in natural oils, allows for excellent temperature regulation. Gabbeh hand-woven by Iranian nomads, meticulously crafted one by one with this naturally dyed wool, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant feel. A well-woven Gabbeh is said to last for 100 years, showcasing its superior durability. Originating from a climate with extreme day-to-night temperature differences, Gabbeh are warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing feelings of heat. And above all, there is its artistic quality. Gabbeh, created from the nomads' imagination, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being a unique, one-of-a-kind original. They can be used on the floor or even hung on a wall as art. Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can enjoy for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile. If concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with water to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Notes
As these are hand-woven, there may be slight irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing variations. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-weaving. Also, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used to color the wool may be present. This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
