Characteristics of the Region (Ardabil)

Ardabil, a historic city located in northwestern Iran, has traditionally been renowned for its silk and carpet trade, and its ancient Ardabil carpets are considered to be of the highest quality among Persian carpets. Ardabil kilims are also finely woven, sturdy, and highly durable. Kilims made with silk are also produced here. Ardabil kilims feature a variety of designs, from those depicting animals such as birds, horses, and deer to those with distinctive geometric patterns. The color schemes often involve a gentle beige or gold base with vibrant red or orange used for frames and patterns. Due to these characteristics, Ardabil kilims are highly valued as precious rugs that combine beauty and durability.

What is a Kilim?

Persian hand-woven kilims are globally popular and are traditional hand-woven textiles that become more appealing with age. Depending on when they were woven, they are referred to as vintage kilims, old kilims, or antique kilims, and are loved by people of all ages. Most kilims are made of wool, but some are also produced using cotton or silk. They use natural materials. Since natural dyes are used for coloring, you can use them with peace of mind. These hand-woven kilims are robustly woven and are based on the design styles of tribes and ethnic groups, known as tribal rugs. They feature geometric patterns inspired by nature and animals, and each kilim has a unique design.
Various ethnic groups reside in the vast land of Iran. The design and color characteristics differ by region of origin, allowing you to enjoy a diverse range of design patterns.

Other Uses for Kilims

Kilims are widely used not only as simple rugs or floor coverings but also as other interior items, such as wall hangings, sofa throws, table covers, or bedspreads. Their unique designs and colors are distinctive features, often used to accent a room. Kilims are not merely decorative items but are important elements that enrich the overall atmosphere of a room and highlight its individuality. They add unique charm and warmth to a living space. By incorporating kilims, you can create an art-filled and comfortable living environment, enjoying a life surrounded by things you love.

Kilims and Interior Design

Kilims are highly versatile and can be incorporated into various interior styles. In modern interiors, introducing the unique patterns and colors of a kilim into a simple space adds an accent. For natural or Scandinavian interiors, combining them with wooden furniture, plants, or other natural materials enhances the kilim's warmth and natural ambiance. They also pair well with a bohemian atmosphere; placing them on the floor or hanging them on a wall enhances the overall room feel. Kilims have an ethnic design and tribal atmosphere, making them compatible with interiors that incorporate cultural elements from Iran, Turkey, or Morocco. Arranging them as tapestries or cushions can add warmth and depth to the entire room.

Daily Care

Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom. If you need to clean a stain, dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a cloth tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Afterward, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove any detergent, then dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.

Please Note

Due to being hand-woven, there may be slight distortions in shape, weaving irregularities, or dye variations. Please enjoy these as part of the unique charm of a hand-woven item.

I was looking for a rug when I saw Persia Direct's Persian rugs on Instagram and decided to visit their store. The first one was a doormat, which I bought online. It was a really good product, so this time I came to the store looking for a Gabbeh large enough to place in front of my sofa. I received very polite service and found a favorite piece, which I immediately decided on. It really suits the atmosphere of my home, and I'm glad I bought it. Thank you very much.

I bought a Persian rug from an online shop for the first time.
I was a bit anxious about buying a Persian rug online because its appearance can change so much depending on the light, but the polite and thorough answers I received when I called to ask questions put me at ease and I went ahead with the purchase.
Although the actual rug was a little darker than expected, I'm delighted to have found such a wonderful item that met my expectations.
They also handled my request for a tapestry finish quickly and with great care, making for a very pleasant shopping experience.
The finish was also meticulously done and beautiful.
I would definitely like to use their services again.

This was my first purchase. I had been looking for a Gabbeh for my living room and had seen many in person, but I couldn't find anything that really spoke to me. Then I found one on your website and it was love at first sight, so I bought it immediately. I was a little worried about buying something based solely on an image, but the actual product was just as wonderful as I imagined. The packaging was also very careful, and it even came with a letter! Thank you so much for the beautiful Persian tapestry as well. I've hung it in my entryway. I look forward to shopping with you again if the opportunity arises.
