Characteristics of the Region (Sirjan)
Sirjan is a city located in southern Iran, part of Kerman Province. Kilims woven in Sirjan are known as "Suzani" or "Silky Pichi," and the city is registered with UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) as a production center for these Kilims.
Sirjan Kilims are characterized by their extremely intricate and robust weave. Woven by nomadic women based on imagination without a pattern, their delicate and precise nature is astonishing. They use a Soumak weave, which results in a less fluffy surface, and often feature animal and geometric patterns.
Furthermore, Sirjan Kilims often have deep color tones. Red is derived from cherries, blue from eggplant skin, yellow from saffron, green from walnut leaves, and brown from walnut husks or tobacco. These characteristics have earned Sirjan Kilims high regard worldwide and made them cherished as beautiful handicrafts.
What is a Kilim?
Persian hand-woven Kilims are globally popular, traditional hand-woven textiles that grow richer in character with age. Depending on the era in which they were woven, they are referred to as vintage Kilims, old Kilims, or antique Kilims, and are loved by people of all ages. While most Kilims are made of wool, some are also produced using cotton or silk. They use natural materials. Since natural dyes are used for coloring, you can use them with peace of mind. These hand-woven Kilims are sturdily woven and are based on the design styles of tribes and ethnic groups, known as tribal rugs. They feature geometric patterns inspired by nature and animals, and each Kilim has its own unique design.
Various ethnic groups reside throughout the vast land of Iran. The design and color characteristics vary by region, allowing you to enjoy diverse design patterns.
Other Uses for Kilims
Kilims are widely used not only as simple carpets or floor coverings but also as wall hangings, and as other interior items for sofas, tables, and beds. Their unique designs and colors are distinctive, and they are often utilized as accent pieces in a room. Kilims are not merely decorative items but are positioned as important elements that enrich the overall atmosphere of a room and highlight individuality. They add unique charm and warmth to a living space. By incorporating Kilims, you can achieve a life surrounded by art and comfort, and enjoy a lifestyle with your favorite things.
Kilims and Interior Design
The versatility of Kilims allows them to be incorporated into various interior styles. In modern interiors, the unique patterns and colors of Kilims can be introduced into minimalist spaces to add an accent. For natural or Scandinavian interiors, Kilims can enhance warmth and a natural ambiance when combined with wooden furniture, plants, or other natural materials. They also complement bohemian aesthetics well; laying them on the floor or hanging them on the wall can elevate the entire room's atmosphere. Kilims feature ethnic designs and a tribal feel, making them a good match for interiors that incorporate cultural elements from Iran, Turkey, or Morocco. Arranging them as tapestries or cushions can add warmth and depth to the entire room.
Daily Care
Remove dust and dirt with a vacuum cleaner or broom. If you notice stains, dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Afterward, carefully wipe with water to remove the detergent, then dry in a well-ventilated shaded area.
Please Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be slight distortions in shape, uneven weaving, or uneven dyeing. Please enjoy these as part of the charm of a hand-woven item.
