Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-pile, hand-woven rugs made by the Qashqai nomads who roam the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using wool dyed with natural plant dyes. The Persian variant wool used in this product has excellent durability to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant texture contains a lot of oil to effectively regulate body temperature.
These Gabbeh, woven by Iranian nomads one by one by hand after dyeing the wool with natural dyes, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant texture.
Well-woven Gabbeh are said to last for 100 years, demonstrating their superior durability.
Gabbeh, born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, are warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, preventing a feeling of heat.
And above all, there is their artistic quality. Gabbeh created from the nomads' imaginations often feature designs of animals and plants, with each one being a unique, original piece.
They can, of course, be laid on the floor, but they can also be hung on walls as art.
